Ian HargravesIan Hargraves is a Visiting Assistant Professor and PhD Candidate in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University. Ian worked for many years as a maintainer, restorer, builder and designer of pipe organs in New Zealand, Germany and the United States before turning his attention to design. His research interest is with the possibility of understanding design as a practice of care, rather than one of control, production or invention—a theme that he is exploring in the relations of design and healthcare. Ian holds a Masters degree in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Bachelors degree in Industrial Design from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.
